About Us

We are a two-termed elected body of parents made up of 11 members: 7 members, 1 IEP representative, 1 ELL representative and 2 Borough President Appointee's. An additional member is our Student, who must be a Senior within the district who serves until the end of the School Year.

We see ourselves as playmakers in our district. We are well involved in our children's campuses, usually as members of the PA/PTA, DLT or any other parent advisory group that is offered by the DOE. We build relationships with Principals, Parent Coordinators and others to create community partnerships. It is important school faculty hear our voices as we are representation of all parents within the district.

What We Do

  • Hold monthly public meetings with the superintendent to discuss the state of schools in the district
  • Review the district’s educational programs and assess their effect on student achievement
  • Approve zoning lines as submitted by the superintendent
  • Liaise with School and District Leadership Teams
  • Hold hearings on the Capital Plan and prioritize requests for capital improvements in district schools
  • Participate in Joint Public Hearings on school closings and co-locations
  • Submit an annual evaluation of the superintendent to the chancellor
  • Host Chancellor’s Town Halls for their districts

Our Story

Community Education Councils offer parents the opportunity to support and impact education at the district level. Learn more about these councils and consider running for a seat..

Community Education Councils (CECs) are education policy advisory bodies responsible for, among other things, reviewing and evaluating their district’s educational programs, approving zoning lines, and holding public hearings on certain matters. See the Roles and Responsibilities page for a fuller description of what members do.

CECs are established under, and their powers and duties are defined by, New York State Education Law. Their members are public officials who serve their communities as unpaid volunteers. Learn more about the CECs’ roles and responsibilities and see a list of current members and monthly planning calendar.
